Working at home is a double edged sword.

On the one hand we have the convenience of being …. well, at home. On the other side being in a quiet environment where we are at ease can become the biggest enemy of our productivity.

In this article we will look at some tips to avoid this problem, avoid mental blocks, improve productivity, and work in a positive environment that will put you in a good mood!

1) Do not mix work with your private life

To be honest, this is also critical to me; and I find it hard to preach about this rule just because I’m not the type of person who 100% follows this rule, but in any case, avoid mixing the two things is absolutely the best way to avoid distractions and be more productive. However there are some things that I have taken to avoid this problem as much as possible; for example, avoid distractions near your computer station, where we essentially just work. Avoid having a TV on (ignore this if you’re the type of person who works better with background noise!), various games, smart phones and other forms of distractions that we usually see and use in the home. The secret is to have a desk, if not all the room, cleaned by whatever leads back to leisure and can be a deadly psychological weapon in the quest to split the work from home life!

2) A presidential chair for the leap

Face the fact that you need something that is comfortable and ergonomic, where you will be able to  focus and sit at the desk for more than 20 minutes in a row! Here you’ll be able to read to a guide to ergonomic desk chairs.

3) Do not underestimate the light

Have you ever thought that light can improve productivity? Working in a fairly well illuminated room is essential in order to work better and to avoid straining your eyes. Having a window near your desk is definitely a great way to fix this, but it’s not definitive. Make sure you work in a place that is well illuminated even at night or during winter when we have less natural light.

4) Organisation comes first

Here comes the sore point. I can imagine you in a sea of documents, notes, cables coming in and out from under the desk … a real mess! A desk and of course a clean and organized office is the best way to stay focused on your goals and work better.

5) Build a pleasant and personal environment

Working in a “sterile” environment that lacks color and personality is not great for creativity, as you can imagine. Giving a touch of style, the style you like or that you’ve always dreamed of being surrounded with could be the winning tricks to improve your productivity!
